On February 5, 2018, representative Roberto Rivera Ruiz de Porras introduced H.R. Bill 1960 to add a new Article (c) to Rule 44.3 of Civil Procedure to establish that when a court issues a judgment in favor of the employee in cases arising under Act No. 80 of May 30, 1976, as amended, (“Act No. 80”) the legal interests on the severance payment will be calculated from the date the employee was dismissed without just cause until the amount is paid in full.

Currently, the payment of legal interest is imposed from the moment the court issues an unjustified dismissal judgment under Act No. 80.
