To amend section 3 of Act No. 74 of June 21, 1956, as amended on July 29, 2018


To amend section 3 of Act No. 74 of June 21, 1956, as amended on July 29, 2018, the Governor of Puerto Rico signed Senate Bill 1034 and its equivalent project in the House of Representatives into Act No. 167-2018.


This Act amends section 3 of Act No. 74 of June 21, 1956, as amended, in order to comply with the requirements of the Federal Department of Labor regarding the increase in Unemployment Insurance Benefits.


The amendment includes that the Secretary of Labor has to define in a regulation the formula to determine the average weekly salary. Said regulation must state that starting on July 1, 2019, the minimum weekly unemployment benefit will increase to thirty tree dollars ($33.00) and the maximum weekly unemployment benefit will increase to one hundred and ninety dollars ($190.00). Also that, starting on July 1, 2020, the minimum weekly unemployment benefit will increase to sixty dollars ($60.00) and the maximum weekly unemployment benefit will increase to two hundred and forty dollars ($240.00).
